WHAT: The largest all-sail boat show on the West Coast and Pacific Rim. This five-day show, now in its sixth year, showcases an extensive selection of sailboats and gear and brings people of the sailing world together—sailors of all levels, notable experts, and world-class competitors.

EXHIBITORS ~ Over 300 exhibitors and more than 100 sailboats will be on display at Pacific SAIL EXPO this year. Products and sailboats hail from all corners of the world: from throughout the United States and Canada, as well as Austria, Australia, Bermuda, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom.

DISCOVER SAILING ~ Sail America’s national introduction-to-sailing program, will be run each day of the show to give attendees who want to take their first step into sailing just that opportunity. This program offers free half-hour introductions to sailing on a fleet of keelboats with expert skippers. The boats range in size and type to offer a variety of sailing experience. Each boat will give participants the opportunity to take the helm and trim sails to get a true hands-on introduction to the sport.

RONSTAN SKIFF ZONE ~ On display at Pacific SAIL EXPO for the first time this year are the hottest skiffs on the water today – an Aussie-18, I-14, 49’er, 29’er, 29.5’er, and a Vector. These lithe boats are fast becoming popular with the adrenalin set so be sure to stop by and check them out. A skiff performance seminar will be presented on Sunday, April 21, by World Champion I 14 and Aussie 18 sailors, Trevor Baylis and Zach Berkowitz.

PACIFIC SAIL EXPO TRADE SEMINAR SERIES ~ This new series offers state-of-the-art trade and product information to West Coast sailing companies and industry professionals. VINTAGE IACC BOATS ON DISPLAY ~ In celebration of America’s Cup 2002-2003, now’s your chance to come take an up-close and personal look at these beautiful vintage yachts. At 75 feet long, masts 110 ft (from deck) and 5,000 square feet of sail area, these are the largest racing sailboats on San Francisco Bay.

CIRCUMNAVIGATORS’ PARTY ~ Latitude 38’s first annual “I’ve Been Around” Party is on Friday, April 19th from 6-8PM. A reunion for all West Coasters who have circumnavigated under sail, as well as those who want to, in celebration of the circumnavigating achievement. Latitude 38 is currently collecting names of all West Coast circumnavigators and will have the names posted at www.latitude38.com.

Paul Cayard To Host Events At Pacific Sail Expo® 2002

International Sailing Champion to Host Exhibition Sail Aboard “ Il Moro di Venezia”

Paul Cayard, universally recognized as one of the world’s greatest sailors, will participate at Pacific Sail Expo 2002 as the show’s official “Discover Sailing” Ambassador. Cayard will also skipper the IACC yacht, Il Moro di Venezia as part of an exhibition event during Pacific Sail Expo. Additionally, Cayard will make a public and press appearance on Thursday April 18, at the show.

Cayard, a San Francisco Bay Area native, was the first American skipper to win the prestigious Whitbread Round the World Race, in 1998 on EF Language. He is a six-time world champion of sailing and a five-time America’s Cup veteran.

 Internationally, Cayard is known for leading the Italian America’s Cup team, Il Moro di Venezia, to the America’s Cup in 1992. As manager and skipper of the Il Moro di Venezia syndicate, Cayard captured the Louis Vuitton Cup, winning the right to race for the America’s Cup finals. He has participated in the America’s Cup since 1983, when he was sail trimmer for the late Tom Blackaller aboard the 12-meter Defender. Cayard sailed again with Blackaller as tactician in 1987 aboard the USA. In 1995, Cayard was helmsman aboard Stars & Stripes when he raced in the finals of this prestigious event for the second time in a row. In 2000, Cayard skippered the San Francisco based team AmericaOne to the finals of the Louis Vuitton Cup. AmericaOne was the top American team in 2000.
