Ghirardelli Chocolate’s as synonymous with San
Francisco as sourdough bread or Rice-A-Roni and millions of visitors
flock to the company’s headquarters at Ghirardelli Square each year
for an authentic taste of sweet SF history. For the last 150 years,
Ghirardelli’s been making chocolate the old-fashioned way–with the
highest quality ingredients, time-honored methods, and lots and lots of
love. In fact, they’re one of the few chocolate manufacturers in the
country that controls the entire manufacturing process–from cocoa bean
to finished product. Why do you think their chocolate tastes so good?
After a tour of the Ghirardelli Manufactory, be sure to check out the
soda fountain and try one of Ghirardelli’s signature desserts. They’re
guaranteed to send you into a sugar coma. We suggest the hot fudge
sundae–your favorite ice cream literally swimming in a pool of hot
Ghirardelli fudge. Hey, you’re slobbering!

The Sweet Booth
388 9th St. # 155
Oakland, CA 94607
(510) 893-3633
This exotic soda fountain in the heart of Oakland’s
Chinatown district offers yummy Far East treats for those with
harder-to-please sweet tooths. There’s slow-cooked papaya, fresh
squeezed juices, and sweet red bean delicacies, but our readers
absolutely flipped for Sweet Booth’s unusual selection of ice creams.
Sure, there’s the usual chocolate and vanilla, but you can get those
flavors anywhere. Instead, try one of Sweet Booth’s not-so-usual
flavors–like homemade mango, avocado, sesame, or even lychee. Come on,
where’s your sense of adventure? |
