The Deck is Readied Admiral Horatio!
Phil, Alan & Carol with managers

By Mary Swift-Swan

Acelebration highlighting the opening of Horatio’s summer outdoor deck was held on May 16th from 4-7pm. The sun came out on cue, providing a bright and cheery setting; a preview of summer days to come. Horatio’s Restaurant is located at the harbor’s edge of San Leandro Marina.

Carol Henry-Golphin, marketing director for the East Bay restaurants of the RUI restaurant group, got the word out for the well-attended party. Local businesses such as Australian-owned Rolls Wood Turbine Diesel Repair and Safeway’s Leadership group were in attendance as well as a diverse representation from the San Leandro, Oakland, and Berkeley Chambers of Commerce. All who came attested to the value of a "Stress Relief" summer fair and grand outside venue. The guests were treated to samples of Horatio’s new happy hour menu including Executive Chef Allen Schelin’s sumptuous Teriyaki Tidbits, marinated filet mignon, gorgonzola sauce over criss-cross cut potatoes, and Fiesta Calamari, just to name a few.

Horatio’s is one of 30 fine waterfront restaurants across the country managed by RUI. Those bordering San Francisco Bay include Skates by the Bay in Berkeley, Kincaid’s in Jack London Square and Burlingame, as well as Palomino Restaurant in San Francisco.

As the sun began to set, Phil King, Horatio’s general manager, fired up the patio heater to ward away the spring evening chill. The private deck is surrounded by a windbreak formed with large panels of clear plexi-glass. It is a lovely place to unwind any day of the week! Horatio’s should be on your list of fun places to visit as we head into the long days of summer.

To locate the marina, exit 880 at Marina Blvd. and simply head west until you arrive at the edge of So. San Francisco Bay.
