Embarcadero Bicycle Facility Opens

Safe Bike Parking Finally Available Foot of Market Area–even Maintennance!

Bikestation ® had a party Februry 24th, and cyclists, commuters, supporters, and enthusiasts reveled with joy at the Grand Opening of its new Bay Area location at the Embarcadero BART station. This event, featuring many highlights of what Bikestation has to offer (such as a bike retail section, repair shop, and bicycle and transit information), was held on the concourse level of the Embarcadero BART Station, location of the new facility.

In October 2004, the nonprofit organization Bikestation began transitioning the facility (formerly operated by Mike’s Bikes) to their secure access and Global Membership System in order to provide significantly extended hours and locations of service. All patrons may park for free during staffed hours, which are 7:30-9:30 a.m. and 3:00-7:00 p.m., and take advantage of the newly-available retail and repair services. Additionally, members may access secure bicycle parking during all BART operating hours and may utilize any Bikestation on the network.

Bikestation® Embarcadero will be introducing reciprocal discount programs with City CarShare and San Francisco Bike Coalition; these organizations seek to promote similar outcomes of a healthier lifestyle, better air quality, and safer streets.

Bikestation® is a nonprofit organization that seeks to improve the quality of life in urban communities through the development and operation of bike-transit centers and related infrastructure. This project is made possible by sponsorship from BART, Caltrans, and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District Transportation Fund for Clean Air.
