The
Commandant of the United States Coast Guard takes pleasure in
presenting the Coast Guard Public Service Commendation to the San
Francisco Bar Pilots Association for its superior performance and
significant contributions to national security. After the
September 11th attacks, the Bar Pilots worked hand-in-hand with
the Coast Guard to develop and implement the nation’s first
Sea Marshall Program, which was created to protect the Port of San
Francisco. The association’s superb contribution to the
success of this vital program is recognized as another historic
milestone in the association’s rich heritage of public service
dating back to 1835.
