San
Francisco native Cindy Salans Rosenheim is an illustrator
whose clients include Marcel Schurman, Time-Life Books for
Children, MacMillan Publishing, Warner Bros. and The New
York Times. She began her career as a greeting card artist
at Hallmark in Kansas City. Subsequently, she worked for the
Jack O’Grady Graphics studio in Chicago, before returning to
the Bay Area in 1985.
Lately,
inspired by the visual splendor of the local farmers’
market, Cindy has been sketching on Saturdays at the Ferry
Plaza. Prints are for sale at the Bay Crossings store in the
Ferry Building.
Whether
working in pen and ink, watercolor or gouache, Cindy’s
whimsical style is full of movement and life. “I am less
interested in the elegance of line work and more in how
lines capture space to express a feeling or an attitude.
“Many times there are surprises. The “Whoops,
I didn’t mean to draw that there” can be a gift if you let
it. Life may indeed be a bowl of fresh-picked, organic
cherries, but don’t begrudge the pits. They are important,
too — sometimes, more so!”
Cindy and
her husband, Dan, have three sons who, notwithstanding their
devotion to their mother, seem to prefer baseball and golf
to Bosch and Fragonard.
