Bay Area
Tollpayers Race Clock To Take Advantage of FasTrakTM
DiscountWhile there is no expiration date
on the speed and convenience of electronic toll collection, Bay Area
motorists have only about five more weeks to take advantage of the
$1 toll discount available through October 31 to drivers who use
FasTrakTM to pay for their passage across the region’s seven
state-owned toll bridges. Once the calendar turns to November, tolls
on these bridges will be set at $3 for all cars and light trucks —
the same rate paid since July 1 by drivers who use cash to pay their
tolls on the state-owned bridges.
“It’s always a good time to save money,” said Rod
McMillan, manager of Bridge and Highway Operations for the
Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and the Bay Area Toll
Authority (BATA), noting that it’s never too late for drivers to
enroll in the FasTrakTM program. “And the sooner you sign up, the
more money you’ll save.”
Drivers can enroll in the FasTrakTM program online
at ww.511.org or by calling 888.725.TRAK (8725). Enrollees can
expect to receive their FasTrakTM transponders within seven to 10
days of application. Motorists who walk into the MTC/BATA FasTrakTM
customer service center at 1849 Willow Pass Road in Concord will
receive their transponders immediately.
FasTrakTM is compatible on all Bay Area toll
bridges including the seven state-owned spans and the Golden Gate
Bridge, which is operated by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and
Transportation District.
MTC is the transportation planning, financing and
coordinating agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area.
