Public Hearing on Fare Increase
By Guy Span, S.D.
GGB&HTD is holding a public hearing
January 22, 2004 to propose increases in special events ferry and bus
charges. Service to PacBell Park (now it’s called SBC after its new name
rights franchisee) will increase (with approval) from $11.20 to $13 from
Larkspur, while bus service to Candlestick will increase from $13 to $16.
The district notes that this keeps the service on a break- even basis
without describing the number of patrons using the service, or the number
less likely to use it with the fare increase. You may e-mail your comments
about the proposed increase to publichearing@goldengate.org.
Regular Old Business
Vallejo ferry riders are still
complaining about the consistency of the coffee on the Vallejo runs and
this issue has been raised with Blue & Gold’s concessionaire, San
Francisco Bay Concessionaires.
Vallejo Orders New Seat Covers
and Carpets
The Coast Guard approved the lighter
weight and fire resistant coverings for the seats on the MV Intinoli
and they are expected to be installed in early 2004.
Three Bidders for Alameda Oakland
and Harbor Bay
Red and White Fleet, Blue and Gold, and
Harbor Bay Maritime are the three bidders to operate either the combined
or separate services running to the island of Alameda, Harbor Bay and
connecting to Oakland. Blue and Gold has the current contract for the main
island service while Harbor Bay Maritime operates the less patronized
service to Bay Farm Island.
The Oldest Ferries
Bay Crossings
is still looking for the oldest operating ferries, other than the
76-year-old Steel Electrics operating on Puget Sound. Send your candidates
to bw@baycrossings.com.
