911 Sweet
Remembrance
Wrapped
around the miniature pink roses it read, “Remembering You Always
Suzanne, Love Mom and Dad. You always loved these.” The writing
burned into the bench reads: “Suzanne Marie Calley 9/17/87-9/11/01,
dedicated to the victims and those touched by the events of
9/11/01.”
There are benches dedicated to loved ones all
along the shoreside trails of the central coast city of Pacific
Grove. A visitor might not notice the importance of a new bench
placed in the city’s main shoreside park at Lover’s Point. The city
of Pacific Grove has refused permission to place any more memorial
benches along their shores for many years. “Out of room,” they told
the John Denver family and fans a few years ago when he perished
near one of his favorite spots to sit by the sea.

A new day’s dawn at Lover’s Point near
the bench |
In lasting memory of this daughter of Pacific
Grove and for all those lost in the attack on 911, they made an
exception. They allowed this new bench to be placed facing Pacific
Grove’s most famous spot, the rocky outcrop of Lover’s Point. To all
those touched by those events, there is now a special place for you
by the sea.
Remembering with you, Bay Crossings staff.
