Brunch for a King

The 150’ San Francisco Spirit is an elegant lady. She is berthed at Pier 9 along the Embarcadero just 5 piers west of the Ferry Building. The San Francisco Spirit and her 100-foot little sister, the California Spirit berthed at Pier 39, are primarily used for Corporate and private events arranged by the sea and land event specialists, Signature Hospitality Group. Once a week, as of May, it is possible for individuals and small groups to go out on a Sunday Brunch Cruise. What a wonderful option for Father’s Day or to celebrate a graduation or simply enjoy all summer long. Most who go on the Brunches come back as it is the best kept secret for a fabulous Sunday for only $59 per adult, $25 for youth with group discounts. Some come for the view and to see the Bay, others the food but seemed to all enjoy the not stop champagne. The vessel can hold up to 700 guests for cocktails and 525 for a sit down meal. There are 3-decks with the top most holding 30 for an intimate cocktail party with it’s own bar and outside deck with tables and chairs. When joining a Sunday Brunch there may be as few as 30 people with a full service staff, Captain and crew, Chef team and Jazz trio to make sure guest have a wonderful time for 2 hours sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge all around the central bay.

Trying the cruise for the first time was a real treat. Greeted by the event manager Will we were first introduced to Captain Jason, Reverend Mc Daniel (who can marry people) and then the rest of the gracious crew and staff. The day was perfect and sea flat but with enough breeze for the sail boats to grace the view all around us. The Jazz Band was most enjoyable. When the food came out it just kept coming. The menu included:

Assorted pastries,
Full Fruit Array
Waffles with a Chef on hand
Poached Eggs with vine ripened Tomatoes and Hollandaise on English Muffins,
Sonoma Sausage mushrooms and cheese omelet
Potatoes O’Brien
Roasted Vegetables Antipasto
Caesar Salad
Lavosh Rolls
Whole Poached Salmon stuffed with tomatoes and artichokes
Honey Glazed ham
Lamb Chops with Mango Mint Sauce
Cajun Red Snapper
Carved Beef Wellington
Signature Bread Pudding
Chocolate Decadence
Fruit Tartlets
Flan with Bourbon Sauce

Signature Hospitality Group started under the name Pacific Marine operated by a husband and wife team primarily from Pier 39. About the time the business was out growing their floating office it was time to pass the business on. Daughter Daniel and her husband, Garrett O’Doherty, now own and manage the rapidly growing business. They provide as many land based events as charters with ability to handle complete destination management and a variety of activates for any occasion. It was said, ‘If planning something special in the City or San Francisco Bay area, there is only one number you need to know and the rest will be handled beautifully.’ If going out on the Brunch Cruise is any indication it seems they are right. We felt like Royalty.
