Take A Free Harbor Tour — Help The Port Of Oakland Celebrate Its 75th Anniversary And See Giant Cranes And Maritime Operations

Every year the Port of Oakland offers the public a rare glimpse of its maritime operations. This year’s Annual Harbor Tours begins on Thursday, May 2nd, 2002.

Every year the Port of Oakland offers the public a rare glimpse of its maritime operations. This year’s Annual Harbor Tours begins on Thursday, May 2nd, 2002.

The Port of Oakland is the fourth largest and busiest container port in the country and demand for port services is escalating. The Port of Oakland is expanding over the next five years to meet that need.


Each narrated tour includes Port history and the Port’s expansion plans for the future. The tour aboard a Red and White Charter takes about ninety minutes and travels through the Oakland inner harbor.


Individuals and groups of up to 50 are invited to reserve space aboard the vessels. School groups of 4th graders and above are welcome to reserve space. Boarding time is 30 minutes prior to departure.

Due to capacity limits for each tour, please note that reservations must be made in advance of boarding (at least 48 hours prior to each tour).
On May 18th, tickets will be available at Oakland Ferry Terminal (located off Clay Street, in front of the Port building in Jack London Square) at 10:00 a.m. for the noon tour and at noon for the 2:00 p.m. tour. Departure times may vary, as much as a 1/2 hour, due to PortFest activities.
