On Sunday, June 1, from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., the East Bay French-American School (Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley) will host its sixth annual "La Place du Marché." The school’s lower campus, located at 1009 Heinz Avenue and 9th Street in Berkeley, will be transformed into an authentic French marketplace, complete with music, food, and specialized vendor booths, all within a delightfully French atmosphere. Admission is $5.00; children 12 and under are free.
Visitors may relax and enjoy live music or browse an array of market stalls with vendors offering an abundance of unique items including artisans’ wares, French wines, as well as a variety of specialty food items and regional French products. La Place du Marché will also feature the Marché Bistro, allowing diners the opportunity to enjoy bistro cuisine in an open marketplace setting. Entertainment for children will include a juggler, a live petting zoo, a variety of carnival games and face painting.
In addition, raffle tickets will be available for purchase throughout the day with chances to win numerous prizes, including a grand prize trip to Paris for two complete with airfare and hotel accommodations.
La Place du Marché is the school’s largest fundraising activity with all proceeds benefiting scholarship and educational programs at Ecole Bilingue. This year’s Marché will be part of a weekend-long series of special events celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the East Bay French-American School.
Founded in 1977, the East Bay French-American School provides "education with a world view" to over 500 students from as many as 40 different cultures and nationalities. With bilingual instruction in both French and English, Ecole Bilingue educates students commencing in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. For more information, visit www.ebfas.org.
