Theatrical Producer Billy Rose once said, “Never invest in anything that eats or needs repair.” Luckily, those sentiments were not shared by the families whose homes are on the Alameda Legacy Home Tour this year. In keeping with our theme, “Homes of Natural Charm,” you will see warm and happy hearths where both children and history have been cherished, as well as fed and repaired. Enjoy cozy historic homes filled with antiques and eclectic collections, and stroll through neighborhoods bustling with architectural heritage. See rare antique automobiles, marvel at the dancing prowess of Vernon and Irene Castle, and watch President Theodore Roosevelt in a heated discussion with author Jack London. Artisans who specialize in vintage homes will have displays: Bradbury & Bradbury, glass master Ken Matthias, Restorations by the Bay, colorist Bob Buckter, Ruiz Lighting, the Alameda Shade Shop, the Japan Woodworker, architect Angie Klein, textile designer Dianne Aires, and Lee Jester of The Craftsman Home, among others.
The Alameda Legacy Home Tour takes place Sunday, September 19, 2004, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. The event is hosted by the Alameda Architectural Preservation Society and the Alameda Museum and sponsored by The Perforce Software Foundation.
Tickets cost $20 in advance or $25 on the day of the tour. For information, call 510.523.5907. You can also send e-mail to alamedahometour@netscape.net, or check our website alameda-home-tour.org, where you can buy tickets through PayPal.
