The Corinthian Yacht Club is proud to announce that Bruce Schwab, local rock-star sailor and rigger extraordinaire, will be speaking in person at the Corinthian Yacht Club on Thursday, July 10.  The public is cordially invited to attend this exciting talk on fast, short-handed sailing.  On May 3, 2003, just over a month ago, Bruce finished the pinnacle of a lifetime of adventures: he raced around the world, alone, on the innovative Tom Wylie-designed Open 60, named "Ocean Planet."  Bruce, a rigger by training, has won just about every West Coast race during his career, but this challenge was ofa larger magnitude. Share Bruce’s joys and terrors with dramatic photos and video taken from around the globe.  For those of us who aspire to sail faster, Bruce will discuss the technical innovations that enabled him to accomplish this courageous race around the globe, and how those innovations could apply to the more casual sailors among us.

The doors will open at 6pm, and a buffet ($10/person) and no-host bar will be available.  Bruce will start his talk around 7pm.  Admission is only $10 per person, and all proceeds will go to the Made in America Foundation, supporting Bruce’s bid for the Vendee Globe and his outreach activities to youth.

Other great sailors scheduled to speak at the Corinthian Yacht Club include: August 14–Richard Spindler, founder of Latitude 38 and Grand Poobah of the Baja HaHa, who will have you laughing and seriously thinking of joining this year’s 10th running of the HaHa; and in early October, Paul Cayard, Round the World winner, America’s Cup skipper, willtalk about racing in the new century.

Reservations are suggested as there will be limited seating.  Call 415-435-4771 or visit www.cyc.org/speakers and fill out the online reservations form.
