Vallejo Ferry Chief Dismissed

Dynamo Pam Belchamber was Architect of Service’s Unparalleled Success

Published: November, 2004

Pam Belchamber, the longtime director of the Vallejo Ferry Service has been suddenly and unexpectedly dismissed.

City officials are mum but sources tell Bay Crossings that the contretemps concerns a contracting matter and a rankling relationship between Belchamber and Vallejo’s lame duck City Manager.
The move was highly unexpected and left veterans of the working waterfront, regional political leaders and ferry advocates alike gasping in disbelief. By common consensus the “top gun” ferry manager on the Bay, Belchamber has gone from success to success in her more than twenty years at the helm of the Vallejo ferry service.

Whether landing funding for Vallejo’s handsome terminal or finagling yet another top-of-the-line ferry, Belchamber reliably left her rivals sputtering in frustration as she brought home the bacon for Vallejo time after time.

Ferry advocates expressed worry about who could replace the void left by Belchamber’s removal, if anyone. A shaken Marty Robbins, Ferry Operations Manager, is the interim director.

As Bay Crossings went to press rumors were swirling that Belchamber had engaged counsel and was preparing to take legal action, perhaps with the aim of retaking her position.
