Teaching New and Old "Sea Dogs" Safe Boating Skills
The Peralta Sail and Power Squadron is presenting a public, safe-boating class on Wednesday evenings, beginning October 12.
Norm Pennington, District Commander of the United States Sail and Power Squadrons of Northern California, will teach the course. He is also the education officer of San Leandro’s Peralta Sail and Power Squadron.
"We’re dedicated to making boating safer and more fun," says Commander Pennington. "Our ChartSmart course covers compasses, charts, and plotting courses. Electronic navigation tools such as GPS will also be discussed."
ChartSmart is taught by The San Leandro unit has been teaching boating safety here for nearly 45 years. The United States Power Squadrons is a national organization dedicated to the promotion of safe boating.
The ChartSmart class begins at 7 p.m. October 12 and continues for five consecutive Wednesday evenings, through Nov. 9, at the San Leandro Marina Community Center, 15301 Wicks Boulevard, San Leandro.
