Maritime Gate
SF Maritime National Historical Park to Gate 78-Year-Old Municipal Pier to Prevent Overloading. A March 2007 engineering report identified extensive deterioration in the Park’s landmark Municipal Pier -- specifically, that, over the last 78 years, the maximum allowable live load capacity of the structure has fallen from 150 to 50 pounds per square foot. To protect the structure and assure visitor safety, San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park will install a gate at the Pier’s entrance, and restrict visitation during large public events. A new gate will be installed by the end of June.
