OAKLAND -- This June the Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF) will be releasing a new local food guide and program for the Bay Area. Buy Fresh, Buy Local will boost farm viability and will bring more transparency to our food system through point of purchase information about the provenance of our region’s food.

Buy Fresh, Buy Local, the Guide to Bay Area Fresh Food Markets
CAFF’s program is a partnership with farms that sell direct to markets, and the consumers, restaurants, organizations, institutions and retailers that carry and serve local food. A statewide organization, CAFF has been a leader in the farm to institution and local food movement through their expanding Community Food Systems Program Area for the past five years. The Bay Area Buy Fresh, Buy Local program is an expansion from the program’s inception on the Central Coast and encompasses the following counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma. In addition to these counties, an additional eight counties are part of the Bay Area’s foodshed and include: Merced, Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Sacramento and Yolo. Retailers and food providers can indicate food grown in these 17 counties as local.The new Bay Area Local Food Guide will be released at the following premier events:
June 9 – The Golden Glass at Fort Mason
Slow Food San Francisco’s annual fundraiser. All participants will receive a guide as well as get to taste Italian wines and a variety of regional foods prepared by some of the Bay’s top restaurants, food artisans and producers.
June 10 – Jack London Square Rollout Celebration
Join CAFF, Jack London Square and Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association as they celebrate the First Edition of the Bay Area’s Buy Fresh, Buy Local Food Guide and the rollout of the Buy Fresh, Buy Local program. www.brownpapertickets.com/event/13631 www.caff.org
