Ferry commuters have banded together to support plans for dramatically improved bay ferry service.
A new nonprofit organization called Friends of a Regional Ferry System has been formed with members drawn from all existing ferry lines plus communities for which service is envisioned.
Every ferry rider is urged to support this volunteer initiative to back plans for greatly expanded ferry service. Joining the group is free – there are no dues. Membership expresses support for fast, frequent and environmentally friendly ferry service.
The easiest way to join is by signing up at our Join us page.
The main goal of the organization is to keep ferry riders posted on plans and arrangements for the newly formed Bay Area Water Transit Authority (BAWTA) as well as deliberations of the many local and regional government bodies that must weigh in as the process moves forward.
Bay Crossings will appear monthly. It will feature in-depth articles of interest to ferry riders about cultural, environmental and maritime issues relating to transportation and San Francisco Bay. Late-breaking news will be available 24 hours a day at www.baycrossings.org.
Friends of a Regional Ferry System is a fiscal agent of San Francisco Urban Research (SPUR). Donations from individuals, corporations and foundations are being actively sought. A record of all donations and expenditures will be posted to the web site.
Individuals willing to serve as members of the Friends Board of Directors are also needed. For further information call 925-212-3876 or email info@baycrossings.org.
