Visit Jack London Square for a festive evening as they kick off the holiday season on Friday, December 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  Everyone in the Bay Area community is invited to enjoy an evening of entertainment, fun and holiday cheer at Oakland’s historic waterfront.

Now in its twentieth year, the Jack London Square Tree Lighting Ceremony is a family favorite in the East Bay and a benchmark event of the holiday season.  Jack London Square is proud to present a 55-foot Red Fir tree hailing from Mount Shasta, which will be decorated with thousands of energy-efficient LED lights to make this tree truly “green.”  Visitors can also enjoy a sneak peek of some of the holiday floats that will be featured in the 11th Annual America’s Children’s Holiday Parade, and meet two of Santa’s reindeer.

Jack London Square is also proud to present the KBLX Rising Star Talent Competition, which is open to kids between the ages of 5 and 14 years old. Winners of the competition will receive prizes from Shrek the Musical and VIP passes to view the America’s Children’s Holiday Parade.

Did we mention the snow? Jack London Square will feature snow every evening at 6 p.m. from December 3 to January 2.  For 5 minutes every half-hour, a snow machine will create snow flurries at the waterfront, while visitors can listen to choir groups, meet favorite animated PBS characters, shop for local gifts from the Holiday Pop-up from 5 - 10 p.m., create crafts with MOCHA, and much, much more.

But the fun doesn’t end there! On Saturday, December 4 at 2 p.m. the America’s Children’s Holiday Parade featuring beloved characters including Mr. Steve, Miss Rosa, and many others will be marching down Broadway.

Jack London Square will participate in the Mayor’s Office Toy Drive and the Alameda County Food Bank food drive this year. Drop off a toy or non-perishable canned goods and help make the holiday season brighter for a family in need.  Donations will be accepted throughout December at drop-off sites at 70 Washington Street, 66 Franklin Street and 530 Water Street at Jack London Square. The Jack London Cinema, located at 100 Washington Street, will be collecting food throughout the holiday season as well.

Jack London Square is proud to share the holiday season with the Bay Area community. For more information about this and other events, please visit www.jacklondonsquare.com.
