It’s a relaxing and pleasurable cruise across Cook Strait and through the beautiful Marlborough Sounds. The journey covers a distance of 52 nautical miles. The Interislander is 148 meters long and carries up to 975 passengers, 126 cars and 60 railcars at once. During the summer season, a fast ferry called the Lynx offers speedier service.
The Interislander ferry provides a year round link between the North and South Islands of New Zealand. A rail line runs the length of both islands. New Zealand can be toured from tip to toe using the train/ferry combination from Auckland in the north to Invercargill at the south end of the south island. A coordinated bus connects to popular tourist attractions such as Mt. Cook, Queenstown and Greymouth.
