There will also be a silent auction with proceeds going towards the awakening of generations of environmental stewards. The event takes place at 2330 Marinship Way in Sausalito. A Purrfect Night to Raise the Woof!

Join animal lovers from across the Bay Area to get creative, make some noise and Raise the Woof at Barkitecture 2015. The Humane Society of the North Bay’s biggest fundraiser of the year features an artful exhibit of whimsical, funky, chic and one-of-a-kind habitats built by the North Bay’s most creative animal lovers. Participants design and build luxury dog houses or hand-crafted kitty condos, and you are invited to vote on the habitats at the preview party at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 10 at Team Superstores on 301 Auto Mall/Columbus Parkway in Vallejo. This is a fun, all-ages celebration. There will also be a gala and auction at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 at McCormack Hall, Solano County Fairgrounds, 900 Fairgrounds Drive in Vallejo. Guests will enjoy a variety of savory dishes provided by local restaurants with wine and beer from some of our finest local wineries and breweries. The silent auction always includes a variety of fun and unique items. Tastings, premium wines, shopping sprees, specialty pet items and gift baskets are just a few of the previous silent auction offerings. Proceeds from Barkitecture benefit HSNB’s life-saving work for these animals, as well as help us provide support and humane education to the community at large. Tickets are $15 for the preview party (ages 10 and under are free) and $50 for the gala (ages 21 and over only). For more information, visit www.HSNB.org, email bark@hsnb.org or call (707) 853-5655.

Wagging Tails and War Tales

Join park rangers from the Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park for a dog-friendly walk-and-talk along Richmond’s Bay Trail on April 4 at 10 a.m. Bring your furry friend on leash and learn about the vital role that 10,000 American family dogs had in the American WWII defense effort. The two-mile walk will last approximately two hours. Meet rangers at the Point Isabel Regional Shoreline near the Sit and Stay Café. Rangers will lead some light stretching before embarking towards the Rosie the Riveter Memorial. Because the walk is not a loop, all participants will be responsible for finding their own way back to their car. There are parking lots at Point Isabel and also at Marina Bay Park. Space is limited to 30 people, so you must sign up by emailing lucien_sonder@nps.gov.  Please include your phone number in your email message. Rain will cancel this event and aggressive dogs will be asked to leave.

Pitch In on Earth Day

The California State Parks Foundation’s Earth Day Restoration and Cleanup is April 18 at Angel Island State Park and other state parks in the Bay Area. More than 125 volunteers are needed at Angel Island for invasive plant removal, fence repair, dock cleanup and more. Also on that Saturday, 27 state parks across California will be the focus of the 17th Earth Day Restoration and Cleanup presented by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). In addition to being a presenting sponsor, PG&E will provide its workforce at 11 state parks, but more than 2,000 volunteers are needed to help with environmental improvement projects statewide. This year, trails will be cleared for greater public access, campgrounds will be improved prior to the busy summer season, native and drought tolerant vegetation will be planted and trash will be removed to create a more welcoming environment for visitors. Businesses and individuals are sought to actively participate with their communities to help improve the quality, safety and preservation of California’s 279 amazing state parks. To volunteer on Earth Day, visit calparks.org/earthday or call (888) 98-PARKS. Space is limited, so advance registration by April 18 is required. Parking fees are waived for Earth Day volunteers.

Why Recycle When You Can Upcycle?
