Dancing Under the Stars Returns

Spend this summer grooving on the Oakland waterfront with Dancing Under the Stars. From experienced dancers to newbies, everyone is invited to kick up their heels and enjoy these free dance lessons. On Friday nights throughout the summer, Jack London Square will host a different dance theme including the four-step hustle, salsa, west coast swing and line dancing. These festive, free dance lessons taught by professional dance instructor Bradley Montoya begin at 8:30 p.m., followed by a dance party at 9 p.m. to try out all the new moves. Dancing Under the Stars will take place Friday nights from June 3 through June 24. Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon

On Sunday, June 12, more than 2,000 triathletes from around the world will take over the streets and Bay waters of San Francisco for the 36th annual Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. Sending racers on a challenging 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the San Francisco shoreline, an 18-mile hilly bike ride out to Golden Gate Park and an eight-mile trail run through the Presidio, this high-profile athletic event showcases the beauty of San Francisco. This world-renowned triathlon, in which only pro triathletes, age groupers and relay teams can participate, is sold out within hours of the registration opening every year. Fans will not want to miss this world-class sporting event at the Marina Green, where they can see the swim start and end, the athlete transition areas and the finish line. Spectators are also invited to enjoy the free Fitness Festival & Expo on Sunday featuring race festivities, exhibitors, product demonstrations, giveaways, music, food and more. Beerfest – The Good One!

Sonoma County’s annual Beerfest “The Good One” brings over 60 craft breweries to a great event, held outdoors on the lawn at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 11. The brewers will be serving some of the most creative and diverse beers from around the county and beyond. All guests will receive a commemorative beer glass and enjoy unlimited samples of new, rare and classic beers. Expect mouth puckering sour beers, hop bombs, barrel-aged brews and a wide range of other beers that make Northern California one of the best beer producing regions in the world. East Bay Open Studios Festival

Pro Arts is pleased to announce that the Pro Arts Open Studios festival is back and bigger than ever. Now in its 42nd year, the festival includes over 400 individual studios, galleries, exhibitions and events involving more than 500 contemporary artists and locations, representing over 152 square miles of terrain in the East Bay. This free annual festival connects visual, sound, video, literary, traditional and performance artists with the public, capturing the essence of our vibrant local art scene and building a community around art. On June 4-5 and 11-12, participating artists will open their studios from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to view an impressive variety of work from hundreds of artists, and gain wider understanding of the artistic process and practice. The festival includes the counties of Alameda and Contra Costa with the highest density of participating artists located in the cities of Berkeley and Oakland. Located at 150 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, and close to the 12th Street BART station and many bus lines, Pro Arts will serve as an informational hub for Pro Arts Open Studios 2016, providing visitors with artist directories, mobile app instructions, maps, curated tours, promotional materials and tips on studios and activities.

 

KPFA Annual  Arts Fair Returns to Richmond Craneway

The KPFA Summer Crafts Fair will be held at the Crainway Pavilion in Richmond on June 18-19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The juried crafts fair will be showcasing over 200 exhibitors presenting affordable art and crafts, containing original work made by hand and exhibited by the people who make it. The fair features the brightest talents in contemporary art and craft, highlighting both experienced and emerging designers who produce one-of-a-kind, handmade and limited-edition goods in a wide variety of media. These jury-selected artisans and craftspeople combine new and traditional techniques with modern design aesthetics to produce appealingly fresh and innovative work. All the artists will be present at the Craneway Pavilion to interact with guests and showcase their own work, from outstanding wearable textiles, to elegant and functional ceramics, luminous glass and beadwork, innovative furniture and practical housewares. There’s also evocative photography, original block-printed art, contemporary paper goods and affordable, exquisite jewelry. Waterfront Flicks is Back!

Cozy up on the Oakland waterfront this summer for free outdoor screenings of hit movies, as part of Jack London Square and Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Waterfront Flicks series. From date night to family flick night, moviegoers can start their evenings early with dinner at one of Jack London Square’s waterfront restaurants, or pick-up a quick bite from one of the casual eateries to enjoy during the screening. Festivities begin on the Ferry Lawn around 8 p.m. with movies beginning at around 9 p.m. Moviegoers should arrive early with chairs and blankets in-hand for pre-film festivities including small eats, trivia and giveaways.
