New East Bay Open Studios Festival

After more than 40 years, Pro Arts, the nonprofit art organization that founded the East Bay Open Studios and organized it for over four decades, has handed the baton over to award-winning, internationally-collected artist Carolyn Quan, who also produces successful open studio events in Hawaii and Toronto. The event offers an interactive and inspiring way for art collectors and enthusiasts to experience unique one-on-one opportunities with local artists by visiting them on self-guided tours. Artists working in visual mediums, including drawing, print making, fiber art, photography, digital art, mixed media, ceramics, painting, wood working, jewelry, installation art, illustration, sculpture, collage and more are participating in the event. Artists will open their studios and exhibition spaces to the public on two weekends in June. On June 10-11 and 17-18, participating artists will open their studios from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to view an impressive variety of work from hundreds of artists, and gain wider understanding of the artistic process and practice. The public is invited, for free, into the studios and exhibition spaces of the artists—where they can connect intimately with the artists themselves, ask questions, learn about their inspirations and techniques, in some cases watch demonstrations and enjoy refreshments, and purchase artwork directly from the artists. Detailed profiles of participating artists, including images, can be found on the interactive artist directory at eastbayopenstudios.com.
