Against the Wind

Just a Glance

two egrets skid low among the branches of Live Oak trees

their forward progress impeded by a stiff east wind

their bodies, like sheets hanging on a clothes line

tremble and shake

the wild horses are fidgity

munching, glancing up

the sky is heavy laden,

the gray bulging clouds, seamless

blue heron glides

above spring sprouted trees

underneath gray clouds

neighborhood dog barks

as dim shadow crosses backyard

surveyor of forest, creek

a perch on cypress branch

not even a squawk

silence falls

what do I do

with all this solitude

and this singular vision?
