By ferry it only takes 17 minutes to get from San Francisco to Tiburon with its plethora of panoramic views and array of awesome scenery. How could anyone not want to check it all out? How lucky people of the Bay Area and visitors are to have such easy access to the beautiful town of Tiburon! By ferry it only takes 17 minutes to get from San Francisco to Tiburon with its plethora of panoramic views and array of awesome scenery. How could anyone not want to check it all out? There is an added bonus: gain health benefits by walking, jogging, biking, or skating your way around. Demo Sport has a store just a block from the Ferry docks renting bikes and inline skates. Fitness in Tiburon (FIT), located diagonally across the street from the Ferry dock, has a full workout facility to loosen up for or stretch out after an invigorating experience of enjoying the outdoors.

In Tiburon, there is a multipurpose path which follows along Richardson Bay from Mar West and Tiburon Boulevard to Blackie’s Pasture. It is the most popular scenic route in town due to its convenient location, relatively flat terrain, and accessible parking areas at both ends. Like everything in Tiburon, it is within easy walking distance from downtown. All of the listed exercising activities are allowed on the recreation path.

The hills of Tiburon and adjacent Belvedere and Corinthian Islands offer some diverse walks that include stairs which crisscross the islands and trails on preserved open land on the ridge top in Tiburon. The reward of hiking the hills is not just a great workout, but also some of the most magnificent panoramic vistas of bridges, islands, and mountains in the world. Be sure to bring appropriate, supportive shoes if walking or jogging, as hills on this Peninsula rival the streets of San Francisco – but with great weather, lots of flowers ,and so little traffic they are much more fun to climb! Start slow and visit several times to work up to the more difficult routes.

The “loop” around the Tiburon Peninsula is a cyclist’s dream ride. The route winds around the Tiburon Peninsula along the very scenic Paradise Drive. It incorporates the cutover street of Trestle Glen which goes from Paradise Drive back to Tiburon Blvd. and on the multi-purpose path returns to downtown. Water views can be seen for most of the ride, plus it is possible to vary the degree of hill climbing by cycling the route clockwise or counter-clockwise. Counter-clockwise will keep cyclists on the water-side of Paradise Drive. Cars and cyclists need a bit of caution because the popular very curvy road is shared without bike lanes.

It is recommended to combine cardiovascular activities with strength training to maintain fitness and health. The stronger one is, the easier and safer it is to enjoy all that Tiburon and its environs have to offer.
