Port Of Oakland Appoints Assistant To Executive Director

The Port of Oakland’s Board of Port Commissioners appointed Dan Westerlin as Special Assistant to Executive Director Tay Yoshitani.

The Port of Oakland’s Board of Port Commissioners appointed Dan Westerlin as Special Assistant to Executive Director Tay Yoshitani.

Formerly working in the Maritime Division, Westerlin has served with the Port of Oakland for 13 years. In his new position, Westerlin will be coordinating international relations on behalf of the Port, developing industry events and presentations, and other special projects as required by the Executive Office.

Prior to joining the Port of Oakland, Westerlin worked at Hanjin Shipping Company and Westwood Shipping Agencies in the Pacific Northwest. A graduate of California State University Sonoma, he completed a two-year language program at Yonsei University in Seoul Korea, and studied Japanese at Shinjuku Language Institute in Tokyo for two years.

At the Port of Oakland, Westerlin has served as a Senior Marine Marketing Representative, Manager of Strategic Marketing, and Manager of Maritime Communications prior to his appointment as Assistant to the Executive Director.

"Dan has more than two decades of experience in international trade and transportation," stated Yoshitani. "His experience and expertise in this position will be a significant asset to all of our lines of business."
